Get ready to fall in love with your Instant Pot all over again! This Instant Pot Burger recipe is one of my favorite ways to cook burgers.
And by the way, if you're a fan of In-N-Out Burgers, you're about to be in homemade burger heaven, because these Instant Pot burgers are a copycat In n Out Burger!
I'm a fan of all types of burgers but there are a few that stand out in my brain a bit more than others. And while I know that many burgers tend to be all about the toppings, there's no doubt in my mind that underneath all that goodness has to be a good beef patty as well. I absolutely love a good juicy burger with a well-seasoned patty!
And I think you are going to LOVE these pressure-cooked burger patties.
Why you should try Instant Pot burgers:
- They always come out juicy, NEVER dry!
- They are very hands-off! You can make a side dish while the burgers are cooking
- No need to flip burgers, no grease splatters
- No added oil for cooking the burgers
- Make as many as you need without getting several pans dirty
If you're the type of person who prefers burgers that are NOT well-done, and are convinced that well-done burgers are dry, tough, and overcooked, you will be so pleasantly surprised by these burgers. Yes, they are fully cooked, but cooking them under pressure ensures that they come out juicy and delicious.
Ingredients:
For the burger patties:
- 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- ½ tablespoon onion powder
For serving:
- 3 hamburger buns
- 3 tablespoon Thousand Island dressing (or dressing of your choice)
- ½ tomato, sliced
- 3 iceberg lettuce leaves
- 3 slices American cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- Sliced onion, pickles, or other favorite burger toppings
This recipe makes three ⅓-lb burger patties. If you wanted to make copycat In n Out Double Double Burgers, you can form the patties into 6 thin patties, but that's a bit of extra work!
You'll also need: aluminum foil, and an Instant Pot with a trivet. You'll also need tongs or a large spoon to remove the cooked burgers from the Instant Pot.
Instructions:
This recipe has minimal steps that are easy to follow.
Step 1: In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt, pepper, and onion powder. Divide the mixture into three even balls (or 6 balls, if making really thin burgers!).
Step 2: Flatten them into patties. Wrap them in aluminum foil.
Step 3: Add 1 ½ cups of water to the inner pot of the Instant Pot and place a trivet inside. Place your wrapped beef patties on the trivet.

You can stack as many burgers in the Instant Pot as needed - just place them on a trivet!
Step 4: Close the lid on your Instant Pot. Set the sealing valve. Cook the burgers at High Pressure for 10 minutes.
Step 5: When the timer is done, do a quick release. Open the Instant Pot lid and carefully remove the cooked patties from the Instant Pot, using either tongs or a large spoon. Carefully remove the patties from the foil - watch out for any steam of hot splatters! They might not be pretty, but they will be so juicy and flavorful!
Step 6: Assemble your burgers: Immediately add a slice of cheese on top of the hot cooked burgers so it melts a little. Add your thousand island dressing to the bottom bun. Add your tomato, lettuce, burger, cheese, and onion slice.
Enjoy! I love serving these burgers with homemade Sunchoke Chips or Parmesan Truffle Potato Wedges.
Can you use a different type of meat for the burgers?
Give it a try!! To be honest, I haven't tried it yet, but I don't see why not! If you give it a try, please leave a comment and let me know, or tag me on Instagram (@babaganoshblog) with your creation!
Are these burgers low-carb?
If you leave off the bun and dressing, you bet! You can totally still eat these when you're following a low-carb or keto diet, with just a few simple modifications.
Even without a bun and dressing, these burgers are delicious!
