Is smoked salmon keto?
Yes! Smoked salmon is keto. It is essentially just salmon that has been cured with salt, which is high in protein, healthy fats, and has zero carbs per 3-oz serving.
Make your own smoked salmon
If you’ve ever had smoked salmon (or lox as it’s called in many places), you know it is very expensive. However, you can easily make your own smoked salmon!
Here is my homemade smoked salmon recipe. It is ridiculously easy. The only thing is you need to plan ahead because it takes 2-3 days to cure the salmon to make lox.
So now that you know how to make your own lox, let’s get started with these amazing keto lox recipes!
Keto Lox Recipes
Smoked Salmon Zucchini Roll Ups
Make these: Use a mandolin to thinly slice zucchini, season with salt and pepper, then roast, pan-fry, or grill the sliced zucchini for about 15 minutes. Roll up with smoked salmon and fresh dill.
Another option is to add a thin layer of cream cheese (bring it to room temperature first to make it easier to spread).
Smoked Salmon Egg & Avocado Bake
Make these: Preheat oven to 375F. Cut a Hass avocado in two, season lightly with salt and pepper. Add a few slices of smoked salmon and crack an egg in the avocado. Add fresh herbs, such as dill. Season with salt and pepper. Bake at 375F for 10 minutes, or until the egg is set to your liking.
Low Carb Salmon Poke Bowl
Make this: Layer smoked salmon, avocado, and your favorite poke bowl ingredients, such as sliced radishes, cucumbers, cabbage. Serve it over cauliflower rice. Season with a drizzle of sesame seed oil, tamari sauce (it’s like a soy sauce but tastier, gluten free, 0 net carbs. You can get it here), sesame seeds (get them here), and chopped scallions.
Smoked Salad Greens Salad
Make this: Load up your bowl with fresh, green veggies, bell peppers, sprouts, a few olives, smoked salmon, and any of your other favorite keto-friendly salad ingredients. Drizzle with olive oil, a bit of lemon juice or balsamic vinegar, and season with salt and pepper. Simple, healthy, easy.
Smoked Salmon Frittata
Make it: Use this kale frittata recipe as a base, but instead of potatoes, add chunks of smoked salmon. Feel free to add other veggies, such as broccoli florets or sliced bell pepper instead of kale.
Smoked Salmon and Egg Salad
Make this fresh salad: Use your favorite baby greens (arugula here!), and add soft-boiled eggs, smoked salmon, and thinly sliced red onion. Season with salt and pepper, and add your favorite low-carb salad dressing.
Smoked Salmon Cucumber Bites
Make these: Add a dollop of sour cream (or unsweetened Greek yogurt, or a smear of cream cheese) a slice of smoked salmon, and some fresh dill. These make a great keto snack or keto appetizer for a party.
The great thing about these is that EVERYONE will love them so you don’t have to explain anything about your keto diet to nosy guests.
Creamy Smoked Salmon Roll Ups
Make these: Roll up smoked salmon with sour cream (or a table spoon of Greek yogurt, if that fits in with your macros) and a few baby spinach leaves. So Satisfying! If you want, you can also add a bit of shredded cheese (perhaps a spicy habanero cheddar?) or thinly sliced cucumber.
Smoked Salmon Egg Breakfast
Make this: Scramble eggs using your favorite recipe, then top with smoked salmon. It’s such a good combination for something so simple! The salty, smoky lox is perfect with eggs.
Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Roll Ups
Make these: Use cream cheese that has come to room temperature to make for easy spreading, and spread it over thinly sliced lox. Use a toothpick to hold the roll-ups together, if you don’t have time to mess around with tying chives.
The combination of smoked salmon and cream cheese is so simple yet so good!
Lox Appetizer Platter
Make this: This appetizer platter includes a recipe for cucumber bites, a lox spread to serve with veggies, and non-keto bagel lox bites if you are having people over who are not on the keto diet. A little something for everyone! Get the full recipe: Lox Appetizer Platter
