Canned lychee lemonade recipe

Delicious sweet syrup from canned lychees is one of the main ingredients in lychee lemonade!

Canned lychee can be bought in almost any Asian grocery store, as well as in the canned fruit aisle or the ethnic foods aisle of many large grocery stores. It is also available online on Amazon. I always recommend buying lychee that has just 3 ingredients: lychee, sugar, and water. No preservatives, no additives. You can also get lychee syrup by itself without lychees (like the kind of syrup that is used for lychee-flavored bubble tea), but that usually has preservatives, additives, or artificial flavors so it's not my first preference.

Lychee syrup is delicious in lemonade. It gives the lemonade a nice floral aroma and flavor. Give it a try!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (from about 8 lemons, but get extras just in case yours are small or not very juicy. If you end up with less than a cup of fresh lemon juice, it's OK to use some bottled lemon juice.)
  • 1-1.5 cups lychee syrup (drained from one 15-oz can of lychee in syrup)
  • 2-3 cups cold water
  • Optional: ½ cup sugar + ½ cup boiling water, mixed together in a heat-safe container until the sugar dissolves.
  • Ice to serve
  • Canned lychee fruit and mint sprigs for garnish

Adjust the flavor to your liking: Add a little more water if it's too concentrated. Stir in more lychee syrup if it's too sour. If you're out of lychee syrup, add other sweetener: dissolve ½ cup sugar in ½ cup boiling water in a heat-safe bowl. Once the sugar is fully dissolved, add a few tablespoons at a time to the lemonade.

Chill in the fridge for 2 hours, or serve immediately over ice. Garnish with a canned lychee and a sprig of mint.

Recipe tips

→ Keep your lemons and lychee syrup in the fridge so you don't have to add as much ice to enjoy your lemonade right away. You can also make sure your cold water is ice cold. This way when you give the lemonade a taste, you'll get an accurate idea of the flavor.

→ Add more floral flavor: Adding a little bit of lavender syrup to this lemonade is really good too! Start with just a few tablespoons so the lavender doesn't overpower the lychee flavor.
