Make your own taco seasoning
If you want to quickly mix together just enough seasoning for this recipe, just combine these ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons sweet or hot paprika (or use smoked paprika for an extra boost of smoky flavor!! This set has both sweet and hot and is absolutely delicious!)
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ - 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Note: this mix already contains salt, so you might not need to add any more salt to your burgers! See my pro tip for seasoning burgers perfectly below in Step 1!
How to make these taco burgers with salsa
Step 1: Combine the ground beef, taco seasoning, and salsa in a bowl. Add salt: about ½ - 1 teaspoon if your taco seasoning does not have salt. If it does contain salt, either skip the salt or reduce the amount.
Mix together using a fork.
Pro-tip for making burgers: To see if you seasoned your burgers well enough, take about a tablespoon of the seasoned burger mix and cook it in a skillet. Give it a taste, and adjust the seasonings if needed.
Step 2: Form 4 burger patties using your hands.
Step 3: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Carefully put the burger patties in the hot oil and cook for 2-3 minutes per side over medium-high heat.
Step 4: Assemble your burgers and enjoy!
Variation ideas:
→ Make it spicier by adding a pinch of powdered cayenne pepper in the hamburger meat.
→ Cut down on the fat content by using ground turkey meat instead of ground beef

Notes
- Taco seasoning and salt: Check whether your taco seasoning already contains salt. If yes, you probably don't need to add more salt!
- Make your own taco seasoning. Mix together:
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons sweet or hot paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ - 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Salsa: The salsa is optional in the hamburger meat mixture, but makes the burgers a little juicier. However, adding some salsa on TOP of the burger is absolutely delicious!!
- This recipe makes 4 small burgers. If you prefer large burgers, use 1.5 lbs ground beef to make 4 burgers and increase the taco seasoning (and salsa, if using) to 3 tablespoons each.
