TikTok Watermelon Fries with Strawberry Yogurt Dip

Here's such a fun way to eat watermelon: Crinkle-Cut Watermelon "Fries" served with a blended strawberry yogurt dip made with fresh strawberries. This is such a great way to serve watermelon at a party, and a guaranteed* way to get kids to eat more fruit.

*Obviously, I can't "guarantee" anything, but look how fun these watermelon fries are!

"Fries" might be a bit misleading. All this simple "recipe" is just a fun way to cut watermelon: slice them into a French fry shape with a crinkle fry cutter! This makes the watermelon easily grabbable and easily snackable.

The crinkle cutter is an inexpensive tool and is great for more than watermelon and fries: it's awesome for slicing veggies to roast them.

Serving watermelon this way is perfect for kids, and the perfect easy finger food dessert. It's a great way to stay hydrated and eat a bit extra fruit this summer... for all of us, kids and adults.

And speaking of extra fruit... I serve these watermelon fries with with an easy yogurt dip made with FRESH strawberries. The whole thing takes about 10-15 minutes to prep.

This easy healthy summer dessert made it onto my list of red foods to try!

Strawberry yogurt dip

The yogurt dip has just 3 ingredients: strawberries, vanilla yogurt, and honey. This ends up being so much more flavorful and healthier than buying strawberry yogurt that has just a hint of strawberries.

Ingredients

  • ½ medium seedless watermelon
  • ½ cup Greek vanilla yogurt (or regular vanilla yogurt for a thinner dip)

Slice of watermelon on a cutting board

Use the crinkle cutter to slice fry-size sticks of watermelon. You can cut off the rind later. Tip: take care not to accidentally keep making the fries bigger as you keep cutting, try to make them all the same size.

In a blender, combine the yogurt and strawberries and blend until smooth. Give it a taste and add honey to taste, blending it in.

Recipe variations

→ You can dip other fruit into the yogurt dip. Try strawberries, bananas, sliced apples, or even graham crackers or vanilla wafers.

→ Add a little tajin seasoning to your watermelon fries, or some chili powder. The sweet & spicy combo is pretty fantastic! I also know people who sprinkle salt on watermelon.

→ Drizzle the watermelon with some strawberry syrup before serving.

→ Make it vegan: Use plant-based vanilla yogurt and agave syrup instead of honey.

How long watermelon fries last

I recommend cutting watermelon fries fresh before eating them, or no more than 1 day ahead. This is because watermelon doesn't stay crisp for long once you cut into it. If prepping this in advance, store cut watermelon in a sealed container in the fridge until ready to serve.

The yogurt dip can be prepared 1-2 days in advance, just make sure your strawberries are super fresh if prepping it in advance. It might need a quick stir before serving, if prepped in advance. Keep the yogurt dip refrigerated until serving.
